Let’s go back to around 10,000 years ago when humans followed the retreating ice cape and discovered Northern Norway. The Arctic climate and the sun that never sets in the summer provided perfect conditions for growing and harvesting various crops. Such conditions allowed the first inhabitants of these regions to establish one of the largest settlements in northern parts of Europe. Their knowledge of preserving meat, fish, berries, roots, and vegetables allowed them to explore new areas, even during the long and harsh Arctic winter. Crops are still being harvested in these rich Arctic regions, and the art of preserving collected food is not only the national HERITAGE but also the FUTURE. It is a long and proud history, but new challenges and needs lie ahead. Light but rich in energy, healthy food is the basis for functioning in difficult living conditions in the Arctic and at sea, in the mountains, in the desert, or wherever your imagination takes you.

Our dishes' magic and natural taste come from the cold, clean water, rich soil, and pale Arctic light. Fishing, harvesting, and meal preservation are done when nature is at its peak and the ingredients are at their best. In January, when the cod begins its long journey from the cold Barents Sea to the Norwegian coast, all fish dishes are prepared. Fall is the peak season for vegetables, berries, and meat. We carefully select each supplier and are familiar with the origin of each ingredient. We believe that good food is made with patience. All TURMAT flavors mature at their own pace – so just like in nature, everything is harmonious and has its right time and place. All TURMAT meals are compositions of the best, most nutritious, highest quality ingredients - they have been balanced and created by an experienced team of
chefs and dietitians.

TECHNOLOGY

Our secret isn’t hidden in the cooking. It lays within the process of our freeze-drying technology. We are not saying it’s rocket science. but the secret is kept safe by the key personnel, the Food Safety Authorities, and the international certification associations only. But just to give you an idea of what slow cooking means to us, let's share some details of the process. First, we make the perfect meal. Then, we freeze the stew and ingredients to very low temperatures – ultra fast. Then we slowly and gently add heat in a way that
neither taste, color, energy nor vital vitamins gets the chance to escape until all the water has disappeared. Just look inside the bag before adding water and you’ll see what we mean.
